This was great. I work in a public library, and every day has someone who demands special treatment, or feels the rules do not apply, or treats us shabbily ("I pay my taxes, therefore you work for me" mentality.) We want to tell these people how being nasty does not get you better service, but instead, we smile, remain polite, do our jobs and breathe a sigh of relief when the trouble-makers are gone.
I hope never to be trapped in an elevator with one. Glad you were able to open his eyes. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Gill,

Yes you are right it did appear he was that kind of chap.

Sometimes they even make complaints with the chance of getting something for free.

Luckily, there are not many people like this around :)

Thanks for dropping by and I hope that you enjoyed the story and will pop by again soon.

Warm regards,

Mike.

This guy was evidently a classic bully - as soon as someone had the courage to confront his appalling behaviour quietly and assertively he backed down.

That can be really difficult to do in a public situation when staff are under huge pressure to be nice to the customers - but in truth a guest like this spoils the whole experience for everyone else so it is worth it in the end, well done!

Hi Simon,

Did you know that Rick Stein stayed with us and I have posted the pictures and a small story on our blog to prove it :)

It's good to know that Asian food is getting more popular back home and that we are all willing to try different foods.

Thanks for dropping by again.

Warm regards,

Mike.

Hi Simon,

Wow, what a lovely surprise to hear from someone in Harrogate!

I am not sure if you know that I am from Harrogate and my very first hotel job was at The Majestic Hotel.

After working in 9 different countries, I am currently working in Malaysia.

I still go back every year to see mum and dad.

May I request you to please pass on my blog to any of your friends that may be interested for some inspiration, recipes or even a laugh.

Sincere thanks for dropping by.

Warm regards,

Mike.

Yes, I saw you were from Harrogate, it's good to know that at least one place in Asia serves decent Yorkshire puddings! I'll certainly spread the word about your blog, I've subscribed to your RSS feed too...how about contacting the Advertiser and Yorks Post etc, I bet they would be interested in an ex-pat food story? The recent Rick Stein series on SEA food was very popular, so I imagine there's a lot of interest in Asian food right now.
